Boulder weather collection, 1897-1988.

This collection contains weather data and related information concerning weather observations in Boulder, Colo., from the earliest official records in 1897 through 1986. The tables, graphs, correspondence, newspaper clippings and other printed materials in this collection were compiled or created between about 1917 and 1988. Box 1 contains folders of weather data tables for 1888-1986 (f01-f28), instructions to weather observers (f29-f34), correspondence with observers (f35-f44), and printed materials (f45-f46). Box 2 contains a volume of climatological data, 1948- 1976. Box 3 holds 3 voluntary observer's record books, 1917-1975. Box 4 contains oversize materials: a printout of weather data from 1897-1986, and 2 sets of a bound series of Boulder climate graphs for 1897-1917.

From 1947 until 1970, the official observations of weather in Boulder were made under the direction of the Boulder fire chief, at the central fire station. The Boulder Fire Department also maintained a weather station at the South Side Fire Station starting in July 1958. Prior to 1947, observations were made from the homes of volunteering citizens of Boulder. (Cf. station history in BHS 351 b1 f6.).
